Process (A) for the hydroperoxidation of branched >4C alkanese by oxidn. with O2, opt. diluted with an inert gas, in >=1 reactor (in series) in the liq. phase at 5-80 bars pressure/30-200 degrees C (pref. 100-200 degrees C) is effected in the presence of a branched chain ketone added to >=1 reactor. Also claimed is a process (B) for prodn. of a diolefin, esp. isoprene, by (i) hydroperoxidn. of a branched >4C alkane, (ii) catalytic oxidn. of an olefin having the same hydrocarbon structure as the desired diolefin by means of the prod. of step (i) and water to give the vic. diol, and (iii) dehydration of the diol to give the diolefin, the improvement being that step (i) is effected in the presence of a branched chain ketone, pref. with the same structure as the hydrocarbon to be hydroperoxidised. Addn. of ketone increases selectivity to hydroperoxide in (A) and reduces oxidn. temp. which reduces thermal requirements and reduce risk of thermal decompsn. of the hydroperoxide formed. Process (A) is partic. useful as a step in prodn. of isoprene from isopentane as the alkane and 2-methyl-2-butene as the olefin.
|
