1445522 Copolymerizing acrylamide with a vinyl monomer SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 21 Jan 1974 [25 Jan 1973] 02660/74 Heading C3P Acrylamide is copolymerized with a monovinyl monomer in a mixture of acetone and water in the presence of a Redox catalyst comprising a persulphate, an aliphatic amine or imine and as a Lewis acid a chloride or bromide of Al, Sb, Li or Zn. The comonomer may be acrylonitrile, acrylic acid or a salt thereof, methacrylic acid of a salt thereof or vinyl pyridine and the persulphate may be K, Na or ammonium persulphate. In the examples acrylamide is copolymerized with acrylic acid neutralized with NaOH in water and acetone in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol using H or Na persulphate, ZnCl 2 , ZnBr 2 , LiCl, AlBr 3 or antimony chloride and one of dimethylaminoethanol, triethanolamine, tetramethylhexamethylenediamine and tetramethylpropylene diamine.
