To prevent ring 7 from being over-compressed axially, the ring 7 may either be allowed to expand inwardly; by using a split ring 8 with overlapping ends (12, 13, Fig. 4, not shown), or it may initially be held clear of the shoulder 9; by inclining flange 10 to the radial direction (Fig. 3, not shown). |
