1494018 Iminocarbonylphosphonate ester derivatives E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 24 Nov 1975 [26 Nov 1974 15 Oct 1975] 48220/75 Heading C2P The invention comprises phosphonates of the general formula wherein X is O or S, R is C 1 -C 4 alkyl or benzyl, R 1 is Na, K, NH 4 or R, R 4 is NR 2 R 3 , SR 5 or OR 6 where R 2 is H or C 1 -C 12 alkyl, R 3 is C 1 - C 3 alkyl or H, R 5 is C 1 -C 3 alkyl, and R 6 is NR<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>, H, or C 1 -C 3 alkyl. They may be obtained (when R 1 is R) by reacting, in a suitable solvent, a compound of the formula wherein Y is O or S and R 7 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl with a compound: HN = C(R 6 )-R 4 and the products may be reacted in a suitable solvent with NaI to form the corresponding products in which R 1 is Na and such Na salt products may be converted to the K<SP>+</SP> or NH 4 <SP>+</SP> salts by conventional ion exchange methods. Compounds of the Formula I in which R 1 is R, R 4 is NR 2 R 3 wherein R 2 and R 3 are as defined above and R 6 is H or C 1 -C 3 alkyl may be obtained by reacting in a suitable solvent a corresponding compound of the formula with an amide acetal of the formula where Q is CH 3 or C 2 H 5 . The products I are useful for controlling the growth of plants and may be used as the active ingredient in conventional plant growth retardant compositions. |
