Reeled foam tapes, esp. self adhesive sealing tapes, are provided on >=1 face with a layer of film forming material esp. a lacquer or a hardened adhesive. Suitable film-forming materials are e.g. lacquers based on vinyl polymers, chlorobutyl rubber, nitrocellulose, cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, etc., spirit lacquers, alkyd resins, two component adhesives, epoxy resins, etc. The film-forming material is applied to the reel of foam, e.g. in the form of a stripe extending through the middle of the reel. The process is esp. useful with draught excluder type self adhesive foam tapes, which are generally provided with a siliconised paper release strip covering the adhesive layer. These tapes are sold in the form of reels of the tape in various lengths. After reeling, the free end of the tape is joined down and the reel is packed in a suitable bag or blister pack. The application of a film forming material to the face of the reel allows lengths of tape to be removed from the reel without the reel losing its integrity, while it is also possible to use cheaper forms of packaging of the reel.
|
