Silicon residue utilisation in reaction with hydrocarbyl halide - by heating in air or inert gas and recycling, avoiding high energy consumption

A residue contg. Si in the form of particles of dia. =50 um sepd. from the gas or liquid obtd. in the reaction of hydrocarbyl halide (I) with Si, is heated >=15, (pref. 20-80) heat 100-350 (pref. 100-200) degrees C in air and/or inert gas and then recycled to the reaction of (I) with Si. The residue is pref. mixed with other waste contg. fine Si particles, e.g. from the recovery of Cu from spent catalysts contg. Cu and Si. The Si can be utilised without the great energy consumption needed for melting and without environmental pollution. The process is used for the fluidised bed process for the prodn. of organo-halo-silanes.
