PURPOSE:To elongate service life of printing wires by a method wherein printing wires arranged staggeredly in plural rows are selectively changed over at least every printing line when low-density printing is conducted, in a dot printer capable of high- and low-density printing. CONSTITUTION:In a dot matrix printing system, both high-density printing such as for Chinese characters and low-density printing such as for alphanumeric ones (Katakane, the alphabet, etc.) are mixedly conducted by use of a printing head 1 having plural printing wires 1, 2 arranged zigzag in plural rows. The wires 1, 2 in each row are selectively changed over by a control circuit 19 at least every printing line when low-density printing in conducted. For example, the wires 1 in the first row and the wires in the second row are alternately changed over every printing line when alphanumeric printing is conducted. |
