PURPOSE:To prepare synthetic lubricating oil having excellent oxidation stability and heat stability, by hydrogenating 2,4-diphenyl-2-methylpentene below a specific temperature in the presence of a Ru catalyst. CONSTITUTION:2,4-Diphenyl-2-methylpentene is catalytically reduced with pressurized hydrogen below 240 deg.C in the presence of a Ru catalyst. Byproduction of an isomer, 2,5-dicyclohexyl-2-methylpentene, is restrained by this method, so that the synthetic lubricating oil comprising 2,4-dicyclohexyl-2-methylpentene having the purity of about 99% or more can be obtained. As the synthetic lubricating oil has so small content of the above-mentioned isomer deteriorating the oxidation stability and heat stability of the oil that it has good stability. Further, 2,4-diphenyl-2-methylpentene used as the raw material comprises 2,4- diphenyl-4-methyl-1-pentene, 2,4-diphenyl-4-methyl-2-pentene and a mixture of these. |
