The invention relates to a method for on-board acquisition of position data in a rail vehicle along a route equipped with light signals as well as to a corresponding device. In order to be able to locate a rail vehicle sufficiently accurately even in automatic methods dispensing with a driver, the positions of the light signals are sensed by sensors.
