PURPOSE:To increase electromagnetic converting properties, by distributing the nonmagnetic pigments of abrasives, a lubricant, an antistatic agent, etc. in a relatively large amount at the area near the surface of a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic coating material is applied to a substrate 2 sent from a supply reel 1 by a coating machine 7. Then the substrate 2 is processed in a magnetic field which is obtained by a bar magnet 3, etc. and has a sudden change so that the magnetic flux density is increased toward the interface between a magnetic layer and the substrate 2 from the surface of the magnetic layer. Thus a magnetic material in the magnetic layer is attracted toward the interface between the magnetic layer and the substrate 2 to increase relatively the concentration of a nonmagnetic pigment at the area near the surface of the magnetic layer (at >=1.5 times as much as the mean weight ratio between the nonmagnetic pigment and the magnetic material). Such magnetic recording medium undergoes the next processes through a parallel orientation processor 4 and a drying machine 5 and is taken up to a take-up reel 6. |
