PURPOSE:To obtain a contact lens having a much more favorable and stable hydrophilic surface than a surface obtd. by strong acid treatment by using sugar ester or sugar alcohol ester modified to ketal. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer obtd by copolymerizing sugar ester or ether modified to ketal or sugar alcohol ester or ether modified to ketal as a polymerizable monomer with a polymerizable monomer capable of forming a hard contact lens material by polymn. is molded into the shape of a contact lens and treated with acid to obtain a hard contact lens. The preferred former monomer includes 1,2:3,4-di-o-isopropylidene-6-o-methacriloyl-D-galactopyranosidoally-i sopropylidene glycerol ether. The preferred latter monomer includes methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate and ethyl methacrylate. |
