The inboard engine (1) is linked to an upper differential (1c) by a universal joint (1d) and drives the lower differential via a vertical shaft (5) through the bottom of the hull. The shaft housing is supported through the hull hole by a collar bearing (133) whose axis forms a line through the universal joint and the screw mounting. This prevents undue strain on the outdrive, while the collar bearing protects the hull from vibrations. The engine is linked to the collar mounting by stabilising struts (27) so that the collar is linked to the enqine mountings, and to the hull by other flexible mountings (40). |
