<p>A housing for a rotary tool comprises a body portion (26) for receiving the tool, a nose portion (36) telescopically mounted on the body portion (26) and a spring (48) urging the nose portion (36) away from body portion (26), means being provided to limit the telescopic movement of nose portion (36) relative to the body portion (26), and an opening (46) being provided in the nose portion (36) for projection therethrough of a bit (18) of the tool. The interior of the housing is connectable to a vacuum source by means of a hose (66) so that, in use, the bit (18) is rotated and air is drawn through the opening (46) entraining therewith swarf created by the bit. As the bit (18) is pushed into a workpiece, the nose portion (36) retracts into the body portion, allowing the bit to go deeper into the workpiece. The housing is of particular use when operations using rotary tools are carried out on materials such as glass reinforced plastics, the swarf of which becomes easily airborne and is harmful to the tool operator. <IMAGE></p> |
