On a paper-marking machine, a press for removing water from a paper web has an extended nip. A main rotating cylinder is supported on bearings above a concave jawplate. At least one of the bearing is supported on a pivot support to allow a pivoting movement along the workpath, so as to accommodate bending or expansion, due to e.g. a temp. change in the cylinder. Press of the invention is not subject to the usual problems associated with the wrong alignment of cylinder bearings, an improved extended nip is provided and the durability of bearings is improved.
