PURPOSE:To focus electrons so as to reduce leakage emission by providing plural first control electrodes made of fine metallic wire and plural second control electrodes made of fine metallic wire, and causing the facing first and second control electrodes to have the same electric potential. CONSTITUTION:Anodes 2a, 2b,... coated with a phosphor are arranged in the line direction and connected together through conductors. The second control electrodes 6a, 6b,... made of fine metallic wire are stretched and arranged in the line direction above the anodes 2a, 2b,... in such a manner that each second control electrode is located between adjacent anodes. First control electrodes 5a, 5b,... made of fine metallic wire are stretched and arranged in the line direction over the second control electrodes 6a, 6b,.... The facing first and second control electrodes are connected through each conductor and have the same electric potential. In order to cause only the phosphor applied to the anode 2b to emit light, electric potentials positive to that of a cathode 3 are applied to the anodes 2a, 2b,... connected together, the first electrodes 5b and 5c and the second control electrodes 6b and 6c, and cut-off electric potentials are applied to the other first and second control electrodes. |
