METHOD OF PRODUCING FOR ETHYLENE COPOLYMER

Ethylene copolymers having good mech. and optical properties are prepd. using an Al-Mg-Ti catalyst system impregnated on fine particles of porous SiO2. Thus, 27.7g TiCl4 was added over 0.5hr to 41.8g MgCl2 in 2.5L THF. Then 500g SiO2, dehydrated at 600-800oC and treated with 1-8% AlEt3, was added to the above soln. The compn. was dried to a freeflowing powder. The catalyst was partially activated with trihexylaluminum and completely activated with AlEt3. 1-Bute-ne-ethylene copolymer film prepd. using the catalyst was free og gels and foreign particles.
