<p>A method of changing a felt in the press section of a paper machine. The normal run of the felt passes through a space under the floor of the paper machine hall. In the press section its lower roll is rotatably supported by one or several cantilevered beams. In the method, frame inserts carrying one end of the cantilevered beam are first removed and then a lifting arrangement supported by the cantilivered beam is used to lift the guide rolls lying within the loop of the felt and located in the under floor space, into an upper position adjacent the cantilevered beam. The loop of the new felt is then spread out to the configuration required by the rolls coming to lie therewithin. The felt loop is then pushed in, using special equipment so that it passes over the rolls lying inside the loop and around the cantilivered beam through the space vacated by the removed inserts. The rolls which have been raised into the upper position are then lowered into their normal operating position in the underside space, whereupon the frame inserts are replaced.</p> |
