PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive magnetic recording/reproducing device which can record and reproduce simultaneously the sound signals of >=3 channels with high quality, by dividing a track where the video signal on a magnetic tape is recorded into N areas and providing plural PCM processing means to perform PCM modulation an demodulation in response to the sound signals of plural channels. CONSTITUTION:Video recording areas Vn-1, Vn, Vn+1, Vn+2... of video signals are divided into 6 areas respectively. Therefore a piece of track is divided into 7 areas in addition to the original sound areas Pn-1, Pn, Pn+1... PCM processing circuits 20-25 give PCM modulation and demodulation to the sound signals of 12 channels in all. Then 2-channel input/output terminals 1-12 is connected to the circuits 20-25, and a record/reproduction switch signal is applied to an input terminal 13. This switch signal if set at a high level switches the circuits 20-25 to a record mode and to a reproduction mode at a low level respectively.
