PURPOSE:To form easily a stripe plating layer on the surface of steel strip by moving the steel strip so as to contact continuously an anode roll having plural lines of grooves for holding a plating liquid and conducting electricity thereto. CONSTITUTION:Ni, Sn or the like having excellent weldability is plated into a stripe shape only on the welding part of a steel strip for cans or the like in order to execute plating having excellent weldability to said strip and thereafter Cr or the like having excellent corrosion resistance and paint adhesion is plated thereon. A steel strip 6 is passed along a cathode roll 7 then along an anode roll 2 formed with grooves 1 contg. a plating liquid of Ni or Sn into a stripe shape in an insulator 3. Electricity is conducted through an insoluble anode 4 in the bottom of the grooves 1, the plating liquid in the grooves 1, the strip 6 and the roll 7. Plural lines of Ni or Sn strip plating by the grooves 1 are formed on the steel strip and thereafter a corrosion-resistant metal such as Cr is plated over the entire surface of the steel strip. The opposite surface of the steel strip is also subjected to the same plating by which the steel strip for cans having excellent weldability and corrosion resistance is produced.
