METHYL5-TETRADECENOATE, ITS PREPARATION AND INSECT ATTRACTANT CONTAINING SAME AS AN ACTIVE INGREDIENT

NEW MATERIAL:Methyl 5-tetradecenoate of formula I. USE:AN insect attractive: an attractant of Anomala rufocuprea, an insect pest of field crops and timbers and its relative insects. It develops high attractant effect in a trace amount. Since it is a volatile oil, it can be used as such or adsorbed on a carrier and the adsorbing carrier can be formed for ready use. PREPARATION:The reaction between methyl 5-bromopentanoate of formula II, pyridine N-oxide and sodium bicarbonate is carried out in toluene to give a compound of formula III. Separately, 1-bromononane is allowed to react with triphenylphosphine in acetonitrile to give a compound of formula V. The product and the compound of formula III are subjected to Wittig reaction to give the compound of formula I.
