A process for sterilizing in particular medicinal equipment or materials which are inserted in a chamber and are exposed to a germicidal gas, whereby the gas used is ozone. The process can be suitably performed by a sterilization device with a chamber that can be closed by an access door and in which an ozone producer is provided, the ozone outlet line of which is connected via a shut-off device to the inside of the chamber.
