PURPOSE:To deposit uniformly a catalytic component on a deposition part by introducing an aq. soln. dissolved with the catalytic component into a vessel wherein the side part is made of an insulator, immersing a monolithic carrier having a catalytic deposition layer in such a state that the upper part is exposed and fitting the catwhiskers. CONSTITUTION:In a monolithic catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas, an aq. soln. 4 dissolved with a catalytic component such as a nitric acid aq. soln. of dinitrodiamminepalladium is filled in a vessel 1 wherein a bottom 2 and a side part 3 are respectively made of metal and an insulator such as plastics. A monolithic carrier 5 coated with an activated alumina layer is immersed in the inside of the vessel 1 in such a state that the upper part is exposed on the aq. soln. 4. Thereafter the catwhiskers 6 having the numbers corresponding to each cell are inserted from the upper part of the monolithic carrier 5 till the catwhiskers 6 are brought into contact with the aq. soln. 4 and an AC electric power source 7 is brought into contact with the catwhiskers 6 and the bottom 2. Thereby the catalytic component is uniformly deposited on the catalytic deposition part and the purifying performance is enhanced.
