PURPOSE:To preliminarily obtain the amt. of the toner necessary for recording by counting the number of the dots to which the toner sticks according to recording information before the toner is consumed. CONSTITUTION:The 8-bit digital signal corresponding to characters is outputted from a keyboard 16 when character keys are pushed. The signal is inputted via a host computer HC and an interface 14 to a character generator 18 and is written into a buffer 18a. The generator 18 fetches the data on the total dot number corresponding to the characters to be contained into a ROM19 and the dots are successively added by a dot counter register 17a of a control CPU17. The data on all the dot number to which the toner sticks in the stage of development for the entire page is contained into the register 17a at the point of the time when the input for one page ends. The data is read out and the amt. of the toner necessary for recording is determined by a means 17b for calculating the toner amt. The remaining amt. of the toner in a toner replenishing device 4a and the required amt. of the toner determined by the means 17b are compared. If the remaining amt. is below the required amt., a display is made to that effect on a display 15. |
