PURPOSE:To permit the quality of the seabed soil to continuously discriminate on ship immediately by a method in which a discriminator for the quality of seabed soil is put on a sleigh and towed by ship to move it smoothly on the seabed, and the vibrating characteristics by the grain sizes of the seabed soil are detected by strain gauges. CONSTITUTION:A sensor 6 is hung down at the central connector 8 and the free end of a steel piece 12 is brought into contact with the seabed soil. A discriminator 1 is towed by a ship 3 move it smoothly on the seabed, and vibrating characteristics resulting from the variation in grain sizes of the seabed soil are detected by strain gauges 11. The ship 3 is provided with dynamic strain gauges for discriminating the quality of the seabed soil from grain size characteristics based on vibrating characteristics derived from the grain sizes of the seabed soil, detected by the sensor 6 of the discriminator 1, an electromagnetic oscillograph, and an electromagnetic recorder. The boundary between different soil qualities of the seabed can thus be clearly surveyed, and also the surveying of the same point can be continuously made.
