PURPOSE:To prevent the damage by burning of a drive means and the thermal breakage of an electric circuit which performs the drive control, by stopping the rotary drive of a rotary magnetic recording medium while the drive means is not kept under a servo lock state after a prescribed time passed from a starting time point. CONSTITUTION:The motor drive current is detected by a control circuit 70 after a prescribed set time passed from a starting time point of a spindle motor 75. In case said drive current value is larger than the reference current value which flows under a steady rotation mode of the servo lock state of the motor 75, a motor start-stop signal is delivered from the circuit 70 in place of the one delivered from a motor start circuit 77. Thus the drive of the motor 75 is stopped. Thus it is possible to avoid the thermal breakage of an electric circuit which controls the drive of the drive means as well as the damage by burning of the drive means which are caused by the overload of the drive means.
