Pullulan platinum complexes are new, in which the pullulan bears active sites of formula (Ia), (Ib), (Ic) or (Id): and one hydrogen atom of some or all of these active sites is replaced by a group of formula (IIa) or (IIb): (where L1 and L2 are each ammonia or a unidentate amine, or together are a bidentate amine; Y is an anionic ligand); or in the case of (Ic) two hydrogen atoms may be replaced by a group of formula (IV); or the hydrogen atom of two adjacent (Id) may be replaced by (IV). Prepn is by sulphation, sulphonation, phosphorylation or carboxylation of pullulan, followed by reaction with a platinum compound of formula (III): (where X1 and X2 are nitrato, or one is nitrato and the other is hydroxo or sulphato).
