PURPOSE:To provide a thermal recording material having favorable dot reproduction properties and high printing quality, by incorporating a phenol compound having at least one alkyl group at the ortho-position with respect to a phenolic hydroxyl group into an undercoat layer, in a thermal recording material comprising a thermal color forming layer provided on the undercoat layer comprising a pigment and a binder as main constitutents. CONSTITUTION:A phenol compound used in this invention has the activity of a phenolic hydroxyl group hindered by an alkyl group present at the ortho position with respect to the phenolic hydroxyl group, and is generally called a hindered phenol. Examples of the compound include the compounds of general formulas (I)-(IV). The amount of the phenol derivative is preferably 1-20 wt.%, more preferably, 1-10 wt.%, based on the amount of a pigment in an undercoat layer. The pigment used in the undercoat layer may be any of general organic or inorganic pigments. Particularly preferable is a pigment having an oil absorption according to JIS-K-5101 of at least 40 cc/100g. The hindered phenol added to the undercoat layer may be added to a thermal color forming layer in order to enhance fastness of developed color body. |
