The invention relates to a shelf joint for fastening a longitudinal support bar (1) to a pair of upright legs (2) in a set of shelves, wherein the shelf elements used comprise shelf elements to be laid between two longitudinal bars (1). In order to eliminate additional braces or attachment to a wall, the joint between upright leg (2) and longitudinal bar (1) is designed to be rigid by using tapered holes (4) and studs (8) that fit therein. The upright legs (2) are provided at certain spacings with arrays (5) of four holes, whereby a set of shelves can be extended by fixing the end of a following longitudinal bar (1) in a pair of holes (4) remaining vacant. The arrays of holes remaining vacant are covered with plastic plugs.
