In order to produce a device for locking knife boxes on drum slicers for comminuting sugar beet, it being possible to slide the knife boxes onto reception rods of the slicing drum and the knife boxes being automatically lockable in the operating position, it being possible very simply and smoothly to mount and/or dismount the knife box equipped with it in each case, it being in addition and in particular impossible for the mobility of the bolt and the mobility of the spring acting on the bolt to be blocked by residues occurring during the comminution of crops and it being possible to carry out a visual examination to ascertain the position with regard to locking, it is proposed that on the drive wheel (4) of the slicing drum in the direction of the insertion path of the knife box (1) there be pivotably mounted a sprung locking hook (5) which is provided with a run-up slope (12), that on the knife box (1) at the front in the direction of insertion there be arranged a rigid locking hook (6) and that the pivotable locking hook (5) have an outwardly directed unlocking projection (7) which projects on that side of the drive wheel (4) which faces away from the slicing drum. <IMAGE>
