A multistage space transportation system, containing aerodynamic lift means on a carrier and a space vehicle supported by said carrier, the air-breathing engine of the carrier aircraft (1) operating in a speed range from 900 to 1800 m/s and being stopped in a speed range, adjacent thereto, from 1800 to 3000 m/s, and the transportation system (1, 2) then being driven by the rocket engines in the second stage (2), the engines in the space glider (2) taking their fuel in the speed range between 1800 and 3000 m/s exclusively from the fuel tanks in the first stage, that is to say the tanks in the carrier (1). <IMAGE>
