The spindle-shaping machine is equipped, on the adjusting spindle of the fence, with a pulse generator which measures the feed travel of the fence with respect to the centre axis of the cutting tool. This value is input into a computer, into which the diameter of the cutting tool can also be input. The computer forms the difference between half the cutter diameter and the adjusting travel of the fence, so that the cutting depth is displayed. In this way, it is possible to directly set the desired cutting depth at the adjusting spindle of the fence.
