<p>PURPOSE:To stabilize an air film between an upper drum and a magnetic tape and to smoothly travel data by rotating the upper drum at a constant revolving speed, irrespective of the revolving speed of a rotary head to be varied according to a data rate. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic tape 32 is wound over the upper and lower drums 23 and 24, and while the tape is traveling along a tape lead 33, the rotary head 21 is rotated integrally with a head rotating body 22 by a head driving motor 26, so as to record and reproduce a digital signal from various measuring instrument. In this case, the revolving speed of the head 21 and the traveling speed of the tape 32 are variable in accordance with the data rate, so as to form a recording pattern with a fixed track pitch. During the data recording and reproducing, the upper drum 24 is driven at a fixed revolving speed by a drum driving motor 28, so as to stably form the air layer 34 in a fixed size between the upper drum 24 and the tape 32. By this method, the tape travels smoothly, irrespective of variations in the revolving speed of the head.</p> |
