PURPOSE: To obtain an adjuvant causing neither local reaction nor systemic adverse effects, comprising a zinc hydroxide gel or an iron hydroxide gel in an antigen solution. CONSTITUTION: An antigen solution of virus, bacterium, cell or peptide is mixed with 1-45V/V% of a zinc hydroxide gel or 1-45% of an iron hydroxide gel to give an adjuvant-containing antigen solution. The solution is further mixed with 1-25% V/V of lecithin to further enhance the adjuvant action of the hydroxide gel, to further increase local tolerance resistance and to improve preparation characteristics of vaccine. The zinc hydroxide zinc gel induces both humoral immunity and cell-mediated immune and the iron hydroxide gel mainly induces humoral immunity.
