PURPOSE:To enhance securance of braizing of a honeycomb-shaped material and form a strong metal carrier by diffusion-treating a base having aluminum alloy plated layer under the given conditions and then forming. CONSTITUTION:An aluminum alloy plated layer 10 is diffused uniformly inside a base 9 by heating at least for 20 minutes or longer under the conditions of 1X10<-3>Torr vacuum degree or under and at 900-1300 deg.C temperature. An oxide layer 11 remains on the surface of the base 9, and when treatment time is 20 minutes or more, said oxide layer 11 can be dispersed simultaneously accompanied with the evaporation of Cr, Al and the like in the base 9 to purify the surface of the base 9 and braizing is able to be carried out securely. Then, diffusion treated base 9 is formed into a honeycomb-shaped material, and braizing is carried out by applying a braizer, and said material is bonded and fixed to manufacture a metal carrier. The metal carrier thus manufactured is of resistance to high temperature oxidation and is useful as a carrier for purifying automobile exhaust gas. |
