The invention constitutes a biochemical method of comparatively determining sugar residues in glycoprotein from body fluid, which glycoprotein has microheterogeneity in the saccharide group or groups. The invention deals with a solution to the problem of how a large number of samples of glycoprotein can be analysed simultaneously with regard to microheterogeneity in the sugar residue using a method consisting of a series of incubations and washes. Examples of other methods which can be used for the same purpose are isoelectric focusing and radio-lectin immunoassay (SE 8004815-0). According to the method proposed in this specification, sugar residues are oxidized with a certain specificity or at least in proportion to the content of a given sugar, are bound to an immunoadsorbent, and are reduced with a labelled substance or a substance which can be labelled or traced. An example of a sugar which can be analysed using the method is sialic acid. The method according to the invention can be referred to scientifically as oxidative- reductive radio-immunoassay (Redox-RIA). |
