A sub-calibre projectile (14) having a discarding sabot (12) is described which, after the projectile has been fired from a weapon barrel (10), decomposes into discarding-sabot elements (40). The discarding sabot (12) is of integral construction, and the sub-calibre projectile (14) is enclosed by the discarding sabot (12) along a common positively-locking zone (22). The discarding sabot (12) is provided with a decomposition device which decomposes it in a delayed manner into discarding-sabot elements (40), after leaving the weapon barrel (10). <IMAGE>
