Composite implant consists of a metal part (3) having high strength and calcium phosphate-contg. crystallised glass part (1) having a high strength and excellent bioactivity. The two parts are joined together by a binder glass coating (2,2a). The metal part is made of Ti(alloy), or Zr(alloy). The calcium phosphate-contg. crystallised glass part is composed of by wt.% 12-56 CaO; 1-27 P2O5; 22-50 SiO2; 0-34 MgO and 0-25 Al2O3. The glass is pref. apatite or earth alkali silicate crystals chosen from wollastonite, diopside, forsterite, obermanite and anorthite. The glass pref. has zirconium oxide dispersed in it. The surface of the glass to be joined to the metal is given a coating of binder glass which is a clacium phosphate-contg. crystallised glass which is free form dispersed zirconium oxide. USE/ADVANTAGE - As artificial tooth root or bones. The thickness of the bioactive layer is increased which eliminates the possibility of cracking or breaking during operations or use.
