PURPOSE: To put light carriers close and away from each other, while minimizing interference so as to maximize transmission bandwidth. CONSTITUTION: An optical communication method and a device are provided which transmit two or more light signals of various light carrier frequencies with high spectrum efficiency, through a single optical fiber 52. The respective light carriers are generally modulated by using a multiple modulation subcarrier. In an example, an optical phase modulator 42 deletes the secondary intermodulation product of the respective light signals and only a light carrier frequency 2fMA can be separated. Here, fMAX is a maximum modulation frequency. In another example, a single side-band optical phase modulator performs secondary intermodulation and deletes one signal side bandwidth, and consequently only a light carrier frequency fMAX can be separated. |
