An anti-skid device for vehicles comprises an arm 10, fixed to the vehicle and flexible essentially in one plane, which arm at its free end supports a rotating pulley 16 with pieces of chain 17 fitted to its periphery. The arm comprises a number of positional elements 20 fastened in a retaining element 21 and enclosing at least one sprung member 22, which in its neutral position gives the arm a curved shape. When a tensile element 15 is actuated the positional elements form a positionally stable stack, the pulley 16 being brought down and pressed against one of the vehicle wheels. <IMAGE>
