METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF RESISTANCE OF TOBACCO VARIETIES TO THE VIRUS OF TOMATO BRONZETOP OF TOBACCO

The method may be used for selection of tobacco varieties. In a simple and accelerated fashion, it determines the resistance of tobacco varieties to the tomato bronzing virus. The method is implemented by clipping and extracting a quantitatively determined sample of dry tobacco seeds with ethylene alcohol. The extract is steamed until dry, after which an Erlich reactive is added. The so-derived mixture is photo-colour metered, after which the content of steroid glycosides is reported, which determines the resistance of the tobacco varieties.
