PROCESS FOR RECOGNIZING AND DISCRIMINATING BETWEEN USEFUL AND INTERFERING ECHOS IN THE RECEPTION SIGNAL OF DISTANCE SENSORS WORKING ACCORDING TO THE PULSE-ECHO PRINCIPLE

In a first step, an individual echo is associated with each local maximum in the received ultrasonic signal. Characteristic traits for each individual echo, such as position in time, amplitude and form factor are then numerically acquired. In a second step, said characteristics are subjected to a fuzzy evaluation. Said characteristics form the input variables for the evaluation. A multiple echo probability results for each individual echo. On that basis, and on the basis of a priori knowledge and known history, it is possible to draw conclusions about the filling level of containers filled with bulk goods in which the surface of the bulk goods is temporarily masked for the ultrasonic unit by the stirring apparatus.
