The marquee has a metal frame (1) with two side beams (2) in hinged sections supported by retractable posts (3) and a series of transverse span members (17) which can be slid along between the side beams after they have been deployed and stowed in a container (4) together with the folded side beams and supports when retracted. The span members (17) are connected to one another by retractable connecting beams (18), and the side beams are connected to the container by hinges. The floor of the container, which has an extending platform, can be used as a stage, while a compartment beneath it can accommodate a sectional dance floor.
