SUBSTANCE: 9-alpha-hydroxyandrost-4-ene-3,17-dione is prepared by transformation of sterols (sitosterol, cholesterol and others) with bacteria of genus Mycobacterium in the presence of water-soluble chemical derivatives of beta-cyclodextrin, for example, alkyleneglycol (ethylene glycol-, propylene glycol) or carboxyalkyl (carboxymethyl-)-beta-cyclodextrin.
