FIELD: electrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: claimed invention describes production of manganese dioxide using chemical process. The resulting manganese dioxide consists essentially of particles which have thread-like protrusions on the surface. Manganese dioxide oxide particles having such peculiarities are prepared by reaction of manganese sulfate with sodium peroxodisulfide in aqueous solution. The claimed can be controlled for preparing high density manganese dioxide. Manganese dioxide prepared by the claimed process may be precipitated directly on electrolytic manganese dioxide surface. The prepared manganese dioxide is especially suitable for use as cathode active material in electrolytic cells. EFFECT: more efficient preparation process.
