The pen includes an internal shaft (10) with a writing head at its distal end, located within a cylindrical body (1) and movable by a click-type control knob (1-5) at the proximal end. It includes a cam (2c) at the front edge of a cylinder (2) located within the pen body, with none of the cam surfaces defined by the internal surface of the body. A rotor (3) is rotatable within the cam, and includes a projecting portion which defines a second cam (3b). A spur (2a) of the cylinder and a rib (3a) of the rotor cooperate with the internal portion of an actuating shaft (5) to retain the writing head in a position selected by click action of the actuating shaft.
