Disclosed is a high speed play-back device for an image signal and method thereof. The method includes a multiple speed setting step which sets a multiple speed unit(K), a track number calculation step which calculates a track number(n) to skip from the multiple speed unit(K), a control step which controls so that a track section having a image signal of 1 field volume per the multiple speed unit(K) can be played back with normality and also so that a high speed play-back can be performed during the rest of the multiple speed play-back, a play-back signal storing step which stores the image signal picked up during the normal play-back time, and a display control step which displays the stored image signal when controls to play back with high speed during the multiple speed play-back. Thus, high speed play-back display of high quality and clearness can be provided.
