PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently printing at all times by a method wherein a retaining device, capable of preserving a stencil base paper unit without drying the ink of the same, is provided. SOLUTION: A retaining device 1, retaining a stencil printing base paper unit consisting of a frame body 21 and a stencil printing base paper 22 extended on the frame body 21, is provided with a frame type projection 11, formed so that the frame body 21 is abutted against the same, and a central part 12, surrounded by the frame type projection, while the upper surface of the frame type projection 11 is protruded so as to be higher than the upper surface of the central part 12 so that substantially sealed spaces 4 are formed between the central part and the stencil printing base paper unit when the frame body 21 is put on the frame type projection. The upper surface of the frame type projection can be provided with adhesive property. A fitting body 5, pinching the stencil printing base paper unit while operating in conjunction with the retaining device, can be provided and the fitting body 5 can be provided with a frame type projection 51, formed so as to be abutted against the frame body 21 upon being engaged.
