摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To synthesize carbon nanotubes at a low temp. and in a high yield in the production of carbon nanotubes by the conventional vapor growth method and to obtain a catalyst for the synthesis. SOLUTION: A hydrocarbon oil contg. a catalyst consisting of a metal-contg. material is injected into a reactor kept at a high temp. in the presence of at least one thermal decomposition accelerator selected from cyanuric acid, isocyanuric acid and their derivs. and the hydrocarbon is thermally decomposed to synthesize the objective carbon nanotubes. The catalyst used in the synthesis of the carbon nanotubes consists of (i) a porous inorg. carrier, (ii) a metal and (iii) at least one thermal decomposition accelerator selected from cyanuric acid, isocyanuric acid and their derivs. The metal and the thermal decomposition accelerator are supported on the carrier.
