The active suspension replaces the fixed suspension elements, e.g. springs, with a support cylinder with piston. The piston is supported by a variable pressure from a control circuit. Displacement sensors monitor the suspension setting and movement. The hardness of the suspension is adjustable by a variable amount of gas in the cylinder. The cylinder is thermally insulated and contains a fine mesh electric heater. This generates a two phase liquid/vapour mixture whose pressure is a function of the temperature.
