PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmission device capable of changing the torque characteristics. SOLUTION: A power transmission device comprises a working chamber 70 formed from a first 10 and a second transmitting member 20 arranged with possibility of relative rotation and containing a viscous fluid encapsulated therein, a first plate set 40 installed in the working chamber 70 in engagement with the first transmitting member 10 in such a way as not capable of relative rotation, a second plate set 50 installed in the working chamber 70 in engagement with the second transmitting member 20 in such a way as not capable of relative rotation, and a piston 30 attached to the first transmitting member 10, supported by the second transmitting member rotatably, and consisting of a cylindrical part 30a and flanges 30b and 30c provided at its two ends. The flange 30b is in frictional engagement with the second transmitting member 20 and separates from the second transmitting member 20 when the internal pressure of the chamber 70 attains the specified value.
